Workshop — Create Your Own Monster: Sewing with a Self-love Twist ($40)
Sewing with a self-love twist! Create a perfectly imperfect hand-held sized fleece monster that represents what you love most about yourself. Participants will learn all the basics of hand-sewing, including threading needles, tying knots, and sewing on a button. Will your monster have wings, a tail, scars or long floppy ears? All materials and instructions will be provided to complete a 5 inch tall plush monster in an encouraging and judgement free environment. What will your monster look like?
Meet your Instructor - Laurie Kay
Laurie Kay is the founder of Monsters Made with Love, a creative project that helps people embrace self-love through sewing perfectly imperfect fleece monsters. What began as a fun activity with her kids in 2013 grew into a meaningful way to encourage emotional expression and self-acceptance.
After relocating to Knoxville, TN, in 2017, Laurie quickly became a part of the city’s vibrant maker community. She now leads workshops, makes DIY kits and creates custom monsters that help people of all ages celebrate what makes them unique—flaws and all. Her philosophy is simple but powerful: there’s no mistake we can’t fix or move on from, and everyone deserves a monster to have and love!
