Whether you’re new to musical improv, songwriting, or just want to practice verse-chorus songs in a structured way, this is your welcome mat.
You don’t need any experience with improv, singing, or theater. We’ll guide you with playful group warmups, clear examples, and step-by-step games that make it easy to try.
You’ll try out your song ideas with low-pressure group singing and lots of support. Musical improv games and theater exercises will make it fun and easy to experiment and create together.
We begin with one big musical community warm up, meet everyone, and get playful. Then, you’ll split off into a smaller group focused just on learning verse-chorus songs, where you’ll create, experiment, and learn together.
At the end, we regroup with the practice group, who will share what they’ve been working on. You’ll get to cheer them on and see what’s possible with more practice. Then we all come back together to play one big musical game as a group.
After you attend once, you’re invited to join the practice group every second Saturday of the month with Highwire Improv!

We’re proud to be a nonprofit project fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas. This support allows us to accept nonprofit donations, which they make sure are exclusively used toward musical improv only. With this sponsorship, we could even have grants to support our group down the line!
What is Musical Improv?
Musical improv is like a game where you and your friends make up songs right on the spot. You don’t need any prepared lyrics or music; instead, you create them as you go. It’s a mix of acting and singing, where everyone collaborates to create fun and surprising songs that fit the moment.
It might sound tricky, but with the right mindset, simple guidelines, and a bit of practice, it’s easier than it looks. Think of it like creating a first draft—using patterns like adding a chorus and taking turns helps you shape your spontaneous songs.
This event is free!
