About Event

What should participants expect?

Join us for "Fandoms: Creative Political Activism," a creative conversation hosted by 64 Million Artists, a celebration of how fandoms can become formidable forces for change.

By their nature, fandoms are inherently creative. The passion which leads to writing fan-fiction, creating fan-art, recreating costumes and many more is a part of people’s everyday lives. These passions bleed into our politics and the way we talk to each other, sometimes inherent in the very text we are fans of. For example, the Lord of the Rings talks intensively about the Environment. This event is a creative conversation for fans to discuss how fandom has impacted our personal political lives and how we can use our fandom communities to further positive political change.

The event will be lead by 64 Million Artists' Programmes Administrator, Aksa Saghir.

Aksa has spent her whole life being a fan and regularly chats about the latest thing she has watched, read or done. She considers herself a fan before anything else. She is a regular at Comic Cons and enjoys cosplaying although does not consider herself very good at it! In her normal life, she is passionate about equality and politics having spent the first half of her career in the Civil Service.
