About Event

As access to technology accelerates across communities and industries, this moment presents a powerful opportunity — and responsibility — to ask: how do we ensure that progress in tech doesn’t come at the expense of people?

This evening convening brings together Tulsa residents, nonprofit leaders, technologists, and RETE attendees for a focused exploration of the human side of digital safety. Grounded in Cyber Collective’s work at the intersection of community organizing, cybersecurity, and digital ethics, this event invites participants to confront the gaps between institutional security frameworks and lived experience.

Together, we will:

  • Break down the distinctions and overlaps between cybersecurity, trust & safety, and digital safety

  • Explore how personal digital risks, from everyday scams to data surveillance, impact economic security and cultural resilience

  • Investigate the ethical risks of unvetted vendors and tools, and introduce strategies for responsible tech procurement

  • Imagine community-driven pathways to build technologies that center privacy, transparency, and justice
