📅 Timeline & Key Dates:

🎯 Objectives:

  • Introduce university students to blockchain technology through practical, hands-on experience with Cardano.

  • Foster innovation by encouraging real-world blockchain applications that solve practical problems.

  • Strengthen collaboration among Sri Lanka’s academic institutions and tech communities.


📌 Hackathon Details:

Event Format:

Hybrid Event (Online submissions & final in-person pitching for the top 10 projects)

Who Can Participate?

  • Teams of 2–5 students from any Sri Lankan university.

  • Students from any academic discipline (Tech, Business, Design, Humanities ect.).

Duration:

  • 2 weeks of building

  • 1-day final pitching event at a central location in Colombo (University of Kelaniya venue).

Categories for Submission

Participants should create innovative blockchain solutions on Cardano across the following focus areas. Each category description serves as a guideline rather than a limit, originality and creativity are strongly encouraged and valued.

1. 🌍 Social Impact & Sustainability

Focus: Solutions leveraging blockchain to enhance transparency, improve societal well-being, and promote environmental sustainability.

Examples as inspiration (not constraints):

  • Blockchain solutions for verifiable and accountable humanitarian aid distribution.

  • Decentralized digital identity tools improving access to essential public services.

  • Platforms that transparently track carbon offsets and environmental impact.

2. 🎓 Education & Academia

Focus: Innovative applications supporting education, academic integrity, and enhancing learning experiences.

Examples as inspiration (not constraints):

  • Blockchain-driven verification systems for academic credentials.

  • Transparent student elections and governance platforms.

  • Secure blockchain repositories for student research and projects.

3. 🎨 Creative Innovation

Focus: Unique blockchain-based applications blending creativity, technology, and culture.


Examples as inspiration (not constraints):

  • NFT-based storytelling apps promoting Sri Lankan culture.

  • Interactive blockchain solutions incentivizing local tourism.

  • Combining blockchain with other technologies, such as AI, VR, or IoT, to create novel and engaging experiences.

Note:
These examples provide direction and inspiration, but you are encouraged to develop outside of the given examples. Judges will appreciate novel, impactful, and thoughtfully executed ideas.


💰 Prize Structure (Total Prize Pool: LKR 300,000):

  • First Place: LKR 150,000

  • Second Place: LKR 100,000

  • Third Place: LKR 50,000

Additionally:

  • All participants receive a Certificate of Participation.

  • Winners featured on the CoinCeylon and Intersect Sri Lanka Hub platforms for recognition and exposure, local media, global Cardano blockchain publications


🔧 Participant Resources (Tools & Tech Stack)

Participants are encouraged to utilize accessible Cardano development tools such as:

  • Mesh SDK (Simple dApp development)

  • Aiken Smart Contract Language (Efficient Plutus contract creation)

  • Blockfrost API (Easy blockchain interaction)

  • Cardano Wallets (Lace, Eternl, or others)

However, you are not limited to these tools alone. Participants are strongly encouraged to:

  • Explore additional Cardano development tools or libraries.

  • Conduct independent research to integrate blockchain with complementary technologies like AI, machine learning, IoT, or others.

  • Innovatively combine technologies to build unique and impactful applications.

Your resourcefulness in leveraging diverse technologies and tools is highly encouraged and will contribute positively to your project's evaluation.


📌 Submission Guidelines:

All submissions must:

  • Utilize the Cardano blockchain in a meaningful way.

  • Be open-sourced with an Apache 2.0 license on a public GitHub repository.

  • Include basic documentation and a short video demo (2–4 minutes).


🏆 Judging Criteria:

Each submission is judged by industry and academic professionals based on:

  • Innovation & Originality (30%) – Creativity and uniqueness.

  • Real-world Impact & Practicality (30%) – Solving actual societal or industry challenges.

  • Quality & Technical Implementation (20%) – Usability, simplicity, and technical robustness.

  • Presentation & Clarity (20%) – Pitch clarity, project explanation, and demonstration.

Finale Pitch Venue:

  • University of Kelaniya Computing & Technology Faculty auditorium.

  • Highlight winning projects through press/media releases and social media coverage.

  • Provide opportunities for winners to collaborate with CoinCeylon for future internships or blockchain projects.
