Food Disposal + Rescue + Compost: Community & Commercial Solutions for Food Waste
🤙 About Event
Food waste is more than just a trash problem—it’s a climate problem. Join Eric Newton, Zero Waste Representative at Universal Waste Systems, for a deep dive into how Los Angeles is tackling organic waste through policy, innovation, and community-driven solutions.
With SB 1383, California has set ambitious goals to reduce methane emissions by diverting organic waste from landfills—but what does that actually look like in practice? This session will explore how the recycLA program is helping households and businesses transition to organics recycling, set up food rescue partnerships, and build community composting hubs to close the loop on food waste.
We’ll cover:
♻️ The requirements of SB 1383 and what they mean for businesses and communities
🏙 How LA is encouraging compliance and overcoming barriers to food waste reduction
🍎 The role of food rescue in bridging the gap between surplus and scarcity
🌱 Community composting solutions that empower neighborhoods to take action
Whether you're a business owner, sustainability advocate, or community organizer, this session will provide practical insights on how we can all work together to transform waste into a resource—building a cleaner, more sustainable, and more food-secure future.
