Exclusive Members-Only Event: Campfire Stories with Ren Stern - 'The quest to build an internet worth being a part of'

What if social platforms weren’t built for clicks - but for connection?

On June 27, we welcome Ren Stern, founder of Senspace, for an evening about reimagining how we show up online - and why the next generation of social tools should feel more like gathering around a table than scrolling through a feed.

A third-culture kid at the intersection of Japan and the West, tech and art, URL and IRL, Ren’s work centers on building tools that are built for presence, not performance. Before Senspace, he helped launch global VC fund SIP Global Partners, founded the Japanese-American indie hip-hop label Frank Renaissance, and supported cultural icons like the NBA and Carnegie Hall in their Japan efforts.

Ren will visit us from Tokyo to share his journey as a founder building Senspace, his approach to sharing his vision along with why he feels a platform like Senspace is so necessary today. We’ll also have a chance to demo the Senspace app prior to its upcoming release in the app store.

📅 Date: June 27th, 2025
Time: 18:00 - 20:00 (Talk starts at 18:30)
📍 Venue: Open Sourced, 10A Perak Rd, Rochor, Singapore

About the guest

Ren Stern is the co-founder of Senspace, a social app built to break the F.O.M.O. loop of traditional social media. A self-proclaimed, “third culture kid” living at the intersection of Japan & the West, Business & Art and the Internet & IRL, Ren’s life’s work has been centered around unlocking new opportunities by helping people and communities from around the world find common ground. Senspace is an extension of this mission, replacing the feed with a collaborative canvas for members of friend groups and communities to feel a sense of belonging by commemorating their most important moments together.

Prior to Senspace, Ren was one of the founding members of global VC fund, SIP Global Partners and also founded Japanese-American indie hip-hop label, Frank Renaissance. In addition, he has supported major American cultural institutions including the NBA and Carnegie Hall in their efforts in Japan and Japanese artists Mitsumasa Kadota and Doooo in their global endeavors.

Outside of work, Ren helps run several diasporic creative and intellectual communities including The Park Tokyo, the Tokyo branch of the diasporic music community, Fridays at the Park, Internet Book Club, a global tech and society-themed book club with groups in New York, Tokyo and Berlin and Harmonium, a Tokyo-based nature and art retreat for global creatives.
