Bioinformatic AI workshop: LLM agents and bio MCP
We will teach you about LLM agents, how they work, and how you can make them use call tools and communicate with each other. We will use our https://github.com/longevity-genie/just-agents library as an example, but the principles there are universal. We will also explain what is Model Context Protocol (MCP), why it is so much hype about it and show how you can use bioinformatic and general purpose MCP servers.
Prerequisites:
Skills: basic or higher programming knowledge is recommended (but not mandatory)
Setup: just a browser and a Google account.
Optional:
We will use free accounts and models, so a key from https://console.groq.com/playground or https://aistudio.google.com/ can save time
In the end, we will show how to use MCP server. If you want to try it yourself, install any of the MCP clients (Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Desktop, or anything else; list is at https://github.com/punkpeye/awesome-mcp-clients)
What you will know in the end:
How LLM-agents work and how to write your own tool
How to set up agents that query the database
Basic knowledge of general patterns in multi-agent systems
What is MCP and how can you use it
Workshop is organized and supported by:
