You are invited to attend the 2025 Graduate Student Research Symposium (GSRS) hosted by the Sociology Graduate Student Caucus!

The event will be hosted at the University of Calgary Downtown Campus and will feature graduate conference paper presentations, a workshop on community engagement facilitated by the Indigenous Research Support Team, a poster session featuring outstanding undergraduate research in sociology, and a panel discussion with community members participating in a community engaged research initiative called the Youth Anti-Racism and Integration (YARI) Collective. The conference program with the schedule of events and more details about each session will be available soon.

The theme of the 2025 GSRS is ‘Building Community: Fostering Connection and Belonging in an Evolving World’

This is a conscious move away from only focusing inwards within academia by inviting and sharing knowledge from the world outside the university space. Students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, university alumni, and community members (i.e. non-profit employees/organizations, members of cultural organizations, and city planners) are invited to attend the GSRS to discuss sociological research in a supportive environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to present and communicate their work to a larger audience, network and connect with potential employers and supervisors for honours thesis and graduate research, learn about the opportunities available in the job market, and connect with fellow academics.

This event will have a catered lunch. Please let us know in advance if you have any dietary restrictions so we can prepare as best as possible.

We look forward to seeing you on May 1st for a day of collaboration and community-building around sociological research.
