Neurogenic dancing is a combination of TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) that activates the autonomic nervous system's neurogenic tremoring mechanism and Ecstatic Dancing that helps us be present, embodied, and free to move in whatever ways we want without judgment. You will be guided with gentle stretches and light movements to activate your neurogenic tremoring. Then with the skills of gentleness and self regulation, you can keep that inwards focus through the ecstatic dance set, letting your body move you. That could mean laying down to rest anytime that feels good, it could also mean big movements and it could also mean standing in one spot with your hand on your heart, feeling gentle vibrations. We hope to create a safe enough container so that you can give yourself permission to experience something new with your body.
TRE®
Our autonomic nervous system does things to help regulate us through tears, sweat and emptying our bladder. It also allows us to release tension and stress stored in the body through gentle trembles or tremors. Yet most of us are socially conditioned to judge ourselves and others when our body shakes on its own and we often suppress or stop this process from happening. You'll notice that this shake happens automatically in dogs and other mammals when they hear loud noises and fireworks. The body doesn't have to keep the score. This method was created by Dr. David Berceli and is an effective series of exercises that unlocks the neurogenic tremors that help regulate your nervous system and moves you into a more balanced, connected state of social engagement.
Ecstatic Dancing
Inspired by the intentions and rules of Ecstatic Dancing, we will adapt them in Neurogenic Dancing.
Be embodied - focus your attention on your body sensations, with curiosity. You can practice interoception - your ability to notice internal signals from the body.
Be present - turn off your phones and devices, no multi-tasking or talking and stay in the present moment for this short time together.
Be here - be comfortable in your room, if possible you don't need to wear shoes. Have blankets and pillows and whatever makes you feel more welcome to be here now.
Be free - dance and move how you want, nobody is watching and there's no judgment. What is it like to let your body move you? How do you optimize for relaxation and tension release?

Thu is a somatic coach and certified TRE (Tension Release Exercises) provider who is creating this new modality to make this effective nervous system release modality available to a wider audience through movement. She is the founder at Nusqool, a sanctuary for people going through collapse and navigating uncertainty to slow down and learn how to listen to their body.
