So it looks like my business is going to fail. Well... It's become unprofitable enough to support myself and my co-founder, and would probably just suit him as a lifestyle business at this point. 4 years, a pandemic and more all nighters than I can count (I handled all the ops)! I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'll be needing employment or a new team to join through winter. Burned through a lot of savings saying 'Just one more deal and we'll be back on track'!

I need some varied feedback on my profile. I've been looking for jobs for 3 months now but still haven't figured out where I fit in. I've been rejected from multiple Strategy Manager roles (post conversation with the Hiring Manager) because I don't come from a consulting background. Someone told me I should specifically be looking at BizOps roles but I'm also unsure how to find these roles because they aren't listed as such on any job board. I've been trying to apply to closely aligned roles like Account Manager/ Customer Success Manager but with no success. Post 250+ job applications, I am really at the end of the tether and unsure about next steps, even considering a move back to India.

3 Questions to guide your story creation:

During the workshop, we'll have attendees share their stories in breakout rooms, and come together as a group to share lessons & learnings.

You will leave with s first (or second, or third) draft of your generalist story to continue revising and practising.

Initially I was in education, teaching for 5 years and then working to bridge the gap between teachers and administrators. I pivoted by supporting a small business grow and launch into new markets, joining a marketing firm to level up their operations, and am now at a seed-stage tech startup as their Head of Operations. My strengths are efficiently integrating vastly different people and departments, and effectively working at 5000ft and in the weeds of the business in my day-to-day.

Initially I worked in psychology and neuroscience research, doing clinical interviewing for 5 years and working as an undergrad psychology professor. I pivoted to tech in 2015 because I no longer wanted to be an academician and I wanted to learn more about tech. I joined an early stage edtech saas startup as their 12th employee on the sales team. My human centered generalist approach led from an account executive to head of west coast sales in three years time. And then I founded an mental health tech startup. My strengths are creatively solving problems with simple solutions , and I'll echo what Reese said... effectively working at 5000ft and in the weeds of the business in my day-to-day.
