Death Mic
Death is with us all the time; let's perform about it.
Join me at the July New Moon for a death-themed evening of performing, spectating, and reflection. Death is one of the hardest parts of life. We keep going by joining together in community, sharing what's on our hearts, and making art out of it.
The evening will entail:
Death reflections. I'll offer one or two prompts to get you privately reflecting on what your relationship with death can take you towards in your life. You'll have a chance to share your answers with the group if you want. (No need to prepare for this in advance.) Death is my main teacher and I'm bringing a stash of questions born from my death practice.
A death- and grief-themed mic. (Like an open mic except 'open' implies optional :p.) A few examples of what you could share: a poem you wrote when your mom passed; a few pages from your journal about your climate grief, or grappling with the meta-crisis; death-y jokes; a eulogy for a living loved one or for yourself; your favorite grief-related passage or poem... etc. It need not be original work. Get sad with it. Get weird with it. Get funny with it. Everyone in attendance must perform! This will be very low-key; don't worry if your thing isn't perfectly polished. 7-minute limit.
Come enjoy a wholesome evening touching the sacred pulse of death, alongside kind people. Sharing your stories of grief is a gift to those who get to hear them. We feel less alone in our own, and learn new ways to frame, touch, feel, articulate, relate to it all.
Pay what you want. If you choose to donate, you’re welcome to do so in advance or following the event:
