Egbe Bere Ugo Bere: Application of Ìgbò Cosmology in Science and Technology
Inclusion is often framed in terms of representation, but true inclusion also demands tolerance—the ability to accommodate diverse perspectives and knowledge systems. One area where this is frequently overlooked is the integration of indigenous wisdom into science and technology. Our ancestors developed innovative methods to solve local challenges, ensuring that multiple viewpoints were valued. This principle is embodied in the aphorism: Egbe bere ugo bere—"Let the kite perch, let the eagle perch."
The Ìgbò worldview, deeply rooted in spirituality and cultural heritage, holds immense potential for modern technological advancements. Myths, legends, language, medicine, and customs provide valuable insights that, when reimagined, can offer unique solutions to contemporary challenges. However, tapping into this knowledge requires dismantling misconceptions that label indigenous wisdom as outdated or unscientific. Instead, we must embrace its transformative potential, fostering innovation that is both forward-thinking and deeply connected to our heritage.
Join us at Ńkàtà Ụ́mụ̀ Ìbé on Friday, 7th February 2025, as we welcome Mr. Ugo Eze, our distinguished speaker for the month.
