Patagonia. Inspiring new models of ownership?

Patagonia has always made bold decisions (who could forget their 'Don’t Buy This Jacket' campaign) Most recently, they announced their biggest move:

“As of now, Earth is our only shareholder...ALL profits, in perpetuity, will go to our mission to ‘save our home planet.”

Essentially, Patagonia is dedicating all profits from the company to projects and organisations that will protect wild land and biodiversity and fight the climate crisis.

But what does all this mean?

We've invited two practitioners in steward ownership to share their take and open up a community conversation about why Patagonia's decision matters.

In this conversation, we'll be discussing:

  • Patagonia's decision and why it matters

  • How and why steward ownership works.

  • What's next? How can other businesses follow suit

...there'll also be a Q&A in which you'll have time to get answers to your questions..

About the Speakers

Emma Shaw is the co-founder of Library of Things, an all-women-led social enterprise on a mission to make borrowing better than buying for people and the planet, also using a model similar to steward ownership.

Patrick Andrews is a lawyer and facilitator with over 30 years of experience advising businesses and not-for-profits on their contracts, legal structures and disputes. He guided the Library of Things's team through the redesign of their steward ownership governance model.
