Rooted in Resilience
On Saturday, July 19, Kulshan Carbon Trust (KCT) invites the public to Rooted in Resilience, a free, family-friendly climate event taking place from 2–5 PM at Boulevard Park in Bellingham. The event is part of the broader PNW Climate Week and aims to bring the community together for an afternoon of learning, connection, and collaborative action on local climate challenges.
Designed to blend education with engagement, Rooted in Resilience features a unique lineup of short talks followed by informal “Community Conversations”, where speakers and attendees can dive deeper into the topics presented. This year’s featured speakers include:
Howard Sharfstein – An Introduction to Kulshan Carbon Trust
Brian Kerkvliet & Inspiration Farm – Water and Climate In Our Local Landscape
David MacLeod – Bioregionalism in Our Own Backyard
Charlie Brown – The Science of Global Warming
Steve Harrell – Resilience in the Whatcom Climate Action Plan
Senator Liz Lovelett – Recycling for Resilience
Carrie Brausieck – Agroforestry in the Pacific Northwest
Each talk will be followed by an opportunity for attendees to join the speaker in Community Conversation — a circle of chairs designed to foster informal dialogue, audience Q&A, and collaborative exchange.
Additional event highlights include:
Live music from Forest Stokes of Kuinka
Interactive booths from local climate and environmental organizations
A raffle activity to encourage deeper engagement
Yard games
