Move & Play — Glasgow
About the class
In this class, we will explore how to connect with the body and move with a sense of curiosity, creativity, and play. We approach the body as a landscape to investigate instead of a machine to optimize.
Instead of expecting ourselves to be exactly the same as yesterday or somehow even more, we will create space to meet ourselves as we are today. We will not be given definitive answers but dive into questions and build our capacity to answer them ourselves.
The class will include:
Partnering games — Playing with partners in exploratory tasks that involve either working with tools (like the belt, ball, wooden sticks, etc.) or working body-to-body in scenarios similar to playfighting or contact improvization
Solving puzzles with the body — Exploring rhythmic coordination and locomotion patterns that involve the whole body, while standing on one or two feet, on all fours, or on the ground.
Somatic explorations — Deepening the experience of your consciousness through the body by tuning in and developing sensitivity to your full sensory experience.
Class structure
The class follows a natural rhythm of arrive-move-return:
Arrive — Ground and center, taking stock of our current physical, mental, and emotional state.
Move — Explore the movement topic of the day, through solo exercises and partner games.
Return — Return to the starting position, to downregulate and integrate what we worked on.
This class takes inspiration from many people and places but is primarily based on the Fighting Monkey practice.
