About Event

Alvin Kathembe is a writer from Nairobi, Kenya. His poetry has been featured in Dust Poetry Magazine, IceFloe Press, Poetry Potion, and elsewhere. His short stories have been published in Jalada, Omenana, Brittlepaper and Equipoise, available on Kindle.

In this Zoom call, Alvin will reveal what the concept of place means to him and how it has affected his work and writing in general. How moving from place to place has influenced his writing and how writers can incorporate and acknowledge 'places' in their work.

Agenda

Alvin and Roseline Anya Okorie will do a deep dive into:

  • The meaning of place: How does Alvin define place? Is it virtual, physical or spiritual? And what role does it play in his work?

  • Place in relation to writing: How does Alvin envision place in his work, how has moving from one place to another influenced or affected his writing. As a writer does he feel an obligation to write about places.  Do the places in his life end up in his writing?

  • Place and memories: What places have remained with Alvin, places that were most memorable? Are there particular elements of the natural world that show up more frequently in his writing because of where he lives or goes to?
