About Event

About the event:

WAI Connect is a Women in AI Benelux signature event series spotlighting local talent across Benelux who are breaking new ground in AI.

This edition—co-hosted with City Marketing Arnhem—tackles a challenge that affects us all: how to keep our power supply resilient as demand surges and the climate shifts.

Join us to connect across disciplines and dive into AI’s real impact on the energy systems we all rely on.

What’s happening:

From growing electrification to extreme weather, today’s energy grid is under pressure.

AI isn’t just optimizing—it’s transforming how we deliver reliable, sustainable energy—for everyone, everywhere, every time.

In this expert session, we’ll explore how machine learning and large language models (LLMs) are creating smarter, faster solutions to power the clean energy transition and strengthen the systems we all depend on.

You’ll gain practical insight into AI tools that are making energy resilience a reality.

Why this matters now:

The Netherlands is at the forefront of the energy transition—but expanding the grid alone isn’t enough.

To meet tomorrow’s demands, we urgently need smarter tools to tackle regulatory complexity, fragmented information, and outdated processes.

AI and machine learning offer powerful ways to accelerate decision-making, improve efficiency, and strengthen grid resilience.

This event highlights what’s already working as well as new possibilities to keep the grid stable, efficient, and ready for tomorrow’s demands.

Why attend:

  • Explore cutting-edge AI methods from Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to large language models (LLMs) — and how they’re applied in live energy operations.

  • Learn from experts translating research into real use cases that are accelerating the energy transition.

  • Connect with peers working at the intersection of AI, energy, and sustainability.

Speakers:

  • Yuliya Shapovalova – Assistant Professor, Radboud University

  • Charlotte Cambier van Nooten – PhD Candidate, Radboud University

  • Lieve Brinkman – Data engineer/AI expert, Alliander

Together, they’ll share the latest research innovations, and applied use cases driving resilience in the energy sector.

Agenda:

  • 17:30–18:00 Walk-in

  • 18:00–18:40 Powering Tomorrow: How AI Transforms Energy Grid Reliability + Q&A

  • 18:40–18:50 Break

  • 18:50-19:20 Language that powers change: LLMs and the energy transition + Q&A

  • 19:20–20:00 Networking & bites

Who’s it for:
Open to all—whether you’re working with AI, exploring the field, or simply curious about how technology is driving energy innovation.
