The Circular Game Design Hackathon, held in partnership with the Hong Kong Design Centre and The University of Hong Kong, will be an intensive, hands-on, two-day design event empowering participants to create their own immersive, interactive experiences to inspire knowledge and action around circularity and sustainability.
What is circular design?
Circular design as known as designing for circular economy, focuses on designing products, services, and systems that serves the main theme of sustainability, minimising waste and closing the loop where materials can be reused, regenerated and recycled.
Which topics are we focusing on?
In this Hackathon, we will be focusing on 3 major pillars.
Food sustainability is producing food in a way that protects the environment, makes efficient use of natural resources, and enhances the quality of life in communities that produce food.
Circular fashion is a system in which waste and pollution are designed out, products and materials are kept in use for as long as possible, and where natural systems are regenerated.
Ecotourism involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions, to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats.
By leveraging the interactive and immersive nature of games, it becomes possible to instil a deeper understanding and appreciation for circular design principles. Through gameplay, players can explore, experiment, and internalise these concepts, potentially leading to a shift in mindset and behaviour towards more sustainable and circular practices in various aspects of their lives.
