HOLEY SHEET ! Preview
Katia Lyubavskaya presents nine new artworks from the 'Holey Sheet!' series in the form of a site-specific installation.
The artist adapted a small exhibition space for a comic-like story about a piece of paper with holes and its brief life on its way from the artist's desk to the trashcan. In its essence, the narrative resembles memes, with which the artist often works. All the informational content we consume today consists of such short stories in our feed. The installation also corresponds with the artist's vision of showing the fun and beauty of ordinary things, like her series of drawings on a misted mirror or crumpled napkins.
The current series is a text and visual pun on the well-known expression 'Holy shit!'. Created by cutting canvases, the artist depicts facial expressions that typically accompany this exclamation.
The holes in the shape of eyes, eyebrows and mouths instantly bring the object to life, turning it into an animate character. Artworks are accompanied by text symbols that convey the mood expressed in them, much like the way we use symbols while messaging each other without using a specific language.
