Tethics & Chill [NYC Breakfast]: Trust, Technology, and Human Rights w/ WITNESS' Sam Gregory
I was an admirer-from-afar of WITNESS' work for years before I finally got to meet Executive Director Sam Gregory. Sam is an award-winning human rights advocate and technologist who, along with his colleagues, has been on the front lines tackling digital authoritarianism and identifying new human rights challenges on the horizon. At WITNESS, Sam champions the organization's global team of activists and partners who support millions of people using video. and technology globally to defend and protect human rights, and launched WITNESS' work to 'Prepare, Don't Panic' on multimodal generative AI and synthetic media.
Please join Sam and me for an in-person installment of Tethics & Chill in Soho. Over breakfast on Wednesday, December 11, we'll discuss:
What do most people get wrong about generative AI detection tools and provenance standards?
Reflections on the role AI played in the US presidential election and other global elections
What are AI safety approaches that serve ALL stakeholders?
How frontline journalists and human rights defenders are responding to the challenges and opportunities of AI
We'll get started by 9:15am and have a chance to mingle with friends after hearing from Sam.
Stay tethical,
Zoe & Brendan
