About the OWIH Accelerator Program:

Building on a strong two-year track record, this six-month intensive program provides unparalleled support for innovators looking to develop novel technology and advance commercialization in the New York offshore wind market.

Selected cohort companies will work closely with Equinor, a global energy company currently developing the 3.3 GW Empire Wind offshore wind farm. The partners will also transform the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal into an offshore wind hub, which will be one of the largest dedicated offshore wind port facilities in the United States.

The Offshore Wind Innovation Hub is an initiative, led by Equinor, in collaboration with Urban Future Lab at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and National Offshore Wind R&D Consortium - supported by New York City Economic Development Corporation.

Technologies in scope:

  • Wind power and site characterization—geospatial surveying, metocean data collection, analysis, and integration.

  • Project and port development—logistics planning, safety improvements, supply chain management, and component handling.

  • Installation, commissioning, and construction—component transport, safety enhancement,  digital planning, and quality assurance tools.

  • Transmission improvement—substations, coordinated transmission, and cable technologies.

  • Operations and maintenance—safety enhancement, advanced monitoring, prediction, diagnostics, workforce management, and energy production.

  • Solutions to reduce conflicts and enable co-existence with ocean users—wildlife monitoring, impact mitigation, and fisheries information technology.

  • Stakeholder engagement and education—interactive visualization tools, virtual reality experiences, community outreach platforms, and educational resources to raise awareness about offshore wind benefits.

Program benefits:

  • Intensive acceleration programming to advance solution development and industry understanding.

  • Scale-up support and access to individualized mentorship from Equinor and industry experts.

  • Bespoke entrepreneurial assistance and professional development programming advancing executive management skills.

  • Comprehensive business development coaching through NYSERDA entrepreneur-in-residence programming, pitch sparring, strategic planning, and support program guidance.

  • Exclusive network access and introductions to OWIH's rich ecosystem of industry stakeholders, investors, thought leaders, and public entities.
