About Event

Have you ever considered renting out your illustrations or art to be printed on cards, textiles, or home decor - and get paid while somebody else does the selling?

That's called art licensing. An artist licenses their artwork to a business to be printed and sold on all kinds of products, and they pay the artist a percentage of each sale. It can be a great way to get a second life out of your artwork and earn some (sort of) passive income (we'll talk about it).

July 24, Sam Dubeau will tell us how she started licensing her art, what she learned to look out for, and if you want to try it, what you can realistically expect. We'll discuss pitching your work, negotiating fair deals, and keeping the experience positive and profitable.

Sam will share her experiences of working with different kinds of businesses and bust some common myths:

  • You need a large portfolio to get started (you probably have enough to start)

  • You need connections in the industry or lots of followers to get started (learn to pitch)

  • You don’t need to know how to set up files for print (you do, actually)

  • You need an agent to license your work (nope!)

  • Licensing allows artists to get rich quick through passive income (more of a slow burn)

This seminar is for you if you're a designer, illustrator, or visual creative looking for additional ways to generate income with your artwork. If you have a small collection of work that will look good printed - or you're interested in researching trends and creating new art to meet the moment - you may be able to make art licensing work for you.

Seminars are online over the lunch hour. Join and chat live, listen in while you eat or work, or watch the recording later.

A recording will be available for 24 hours after the seminar; FDD Members can access the recording archive 24/7.
