Inclusive field education: community of practice
We are building a community of practice at Stanford around Inclusivity and Belonging in Field Education. As part of a larger CTL-funded project, we are hosting a kick-off event on Sept 20. This event will bring together staff, students, and faculty from across the university who teach, support, and participate in academic field trips and experiential learning more broadly.
This kick-off event will focus on community building and getting to know others across the university working on similar issues. Attendees will share experiences, ideas, and resources around various potential challenges in field education such as economic barriers, lack of prior outdoor experience, feeling unwelcome and unable to learn in outdoor spaces, and many others. We hope the community will become a forum for sharing ideas and resources, workshopping potential solutions, and advocating more broadly for inclusive field education.
Attendance will be limited to 30 participants. Please RSVP by clicking "request to join" above.
Event agenda:
10-10:30: Coffee
10:30-11: Intro, goals
11-12: Sub-groups discuss challenges of interest
12-1: Lunch
1-2: Overview of CTL project, reflection, wrap-up
