Your presenters

  • Andrew Methven is the author and creator of RealTime Mandarin. Andrew starting writing RTM in 2021 to keep his language skills up-to-date, and keep him sane, during Covid. Every week he shares what he learns with an audience of nearly 11,000 China watchers and Mandarin enthusiasts. Andrew started learning Mandarin over 22 years ago when travelling in China, and then living for several years in Taiwan. He returned to London to take an MA in Chinese translation and linguistics in 2006. Since then Andrew has had a career in business, as an interpreter and advisor to Chinese and international corporates on market entry, international expansion, and investments.

  • Zoe Qian is the editor of RealTime Mandarin and a conference interpreter. Born and raised in Mainland China, she has also lived in Singapore, the UK, and the US. Currently, she is based in Bonn, Germany. She is both an insider and an outsider when it comes to China - observing and learning about China from outside while facilitating the communication from inside. Zoe also speaks German and Japanese. She enjoys learning the rhythm, the melody, and the way of life that each language carries
