Meta-competencies: learning design strategies to incorporate crucial competencies for the future.
Having struggled ADHD and my own ‘boring’ education system, it is disappointing that in these unprecedented times with the onset of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the abundance of knowledge around the science of learning we are still constrained by content-based summative assessment-driven curricula that are not preparing our learners for the future they will inhabit.
“The workforce of tomorrow will be required to think for themselves, adapt to continual change and have excellent self-management, social intelligence, and innovation skills”
Skills Development Scotland, 2018
The development of meta-competencies in learners is crucial if we are to help them thrive in the future.
In this session, we will explore questions like
What are the essential meta-competencies?
Why are meta-competencies important for learners?
How can we fix our broken education system?
How can we incorporate them into our learning designs?
What impact might the development of meta-competencies have on learners?
