About Event

Join us for a free, gentle, and inclusive workshop that creates a shared space for carers and their loved ones with dementia, alongside artists with a personal connection to memory loss.

There will be two parallel tracks available:

  • Circadian Bodies movement workshop, open to carers, people living with dementia, and artists

  • Relaxing sauna session for carers only

The Circadian Bodies movement practice will blend dance, Capoeira, and somatic awareness to awaken the senses and reframe presence in time and space. The session will take place at the Hackney Wick Community Sauna Baths studio, where participants will engage in guided, anatomy-based exercises supported by live-coded visuals and immersive soundscapes.

This is a wonderful opportunity for carers and people living with dementia to move together and enjoy a restorative, creative activity, or for carers to take a well-earned break in the sauna. Artists — including dancers, actors, and writers — are especially welcome to explore new movement patterns and develop stories rooted in memory and care.

This event is part of The Lotophagi Project, a care-led research initiative dedicated to embodied movement for intergenerational storytelling and healing. The name Lotophagi comes from the myth of the lotus-eaters in Homer’s Odyssey, who were lulled into forgetfulness and detachment by the fruit of the lotus. The Circadian Bodies session will be led by movement artist and pharmacist Marianna Sfyridi. Visuals will be designed live by Laura Porta and the soundscapes performed by Sound Travels.

This event is free, with optional donations welcome at the entrance. No prior experience is necessary. Spaces are limited, so please register in advance to secure your place. If you are attending with someone living with dementia, you only need to register once for both of you.

This workshop is kindly supported by the Trellis Arbor program led by the Queen Square Institute of Neurology at University College London.
