Public Art 101: Turning Studio Practice into Public Impact
Ever wondered how to get your artwork featured in public spaces—like murals, sculptures, or installations around town?
The UrbanArt Commission (UAC) is joining us by leading "Public Art 101: Turning Studio Practice into Public Impact," a down-to-earth workshop designed to help Jackson-area artists learn how to find and apply for public art opportunities.
This session will walk you through the basics—what kinds of projects are out there, how to read an open call, and what makes a strong application. They'll break down the difference between RFQs and RFPs, and show you how to use platforms like CaFÉ, Submittable, CODAworx, and PublicArtist.org without getting overwhelmed. You’ll also get tips on how to learn the platforms using free tools like YouTube and Perplexity so you can feel more confident before you apply.
Whether you’ve never applied for public art or just want to sharpen your approach, this workshop will give you the tools, tips, and encouragement to get started.
