Join us for our brand new online series ‘Social Founders Talk’, where we invite social founders to engage in a meaningful and honest conversation about their experiences along their founder journey. Followed by an audience Q&A.
In the inaugural session of the series, Sarah Wren OBE, Founder and CEO of HILS - Health and Independent Living Support, will be sharing her story of taking HILS from its early years to a 10-million-pound charity. She will be interviewed by Ali Kakande, Founder & CEO of Carib Eats, a grassroots London-based CIC, set up by Ali during the pandemic. Sarah shares a special relationship with Ali, as her Social Founders mentor.
We will dive into the joys and the complexities of founding and growing an organisation, the resilience and skills the founder acquires as they embark on this journey and go through the key founder stages.

Speakers
Sarah Wren OBE, Founder & CEO, HILS - Health and Independent Living Support:
Sarah has led HILS to become the largest social enterprise provider of meals and independent living support in the UK. Sarah became Chief Executive of HILS in 2010, having previously been the chairperson of the board. Having led the organisation for 13 years, Sarah has been instrumental in ensuring the development of services that continue to meet the evolving needs of the older community. In addition to achieving positive social impact locally, Sarah has often been involved in campaigning at a national level, including raising awareness of malnutrition and isolation amongst older people.
Ali Kakande, Founder, Carib Eats
Ali Kakande is a Life Coach and founder of Carib Eats – a social enterprise that exists to bring people together via Canteens, providing a Caribbean-inspired meal, activities and support. Carib Eats provides a feeling of connection and respite for guests who are often lonely and isolated. Supported by volunteers some of whom are younger members of the community, Carib Eats provides opportunities for intergenerational learning.
