Make your own 16 piece dinner set
Serve and entertain in style with the your very own bespoke hand crafted dinner set made by YOU from durable New Zealand clay perfect for everyday dining and elegant enough for those special occasions.
In this exciting project-based hand-building workshop you will learn the basics of pinch, slab, and coil pottery, 3 of the great foundational hand-building techniques that have been used for hundreds of years by hobby to professional potters worldwide.
You will create a dining set fit for breakfast, lunch, or dinner including 4 large dinner plates, 4 side plates, 4 bowls and 4 cups or mugs (Handles optional).
You'll get to choose one of 3 types of New Zealand clays including terracotta, Whitestone and cream or buff with speckles, the studios range of premium and custom glazes will add that final touch of beauty.
Down to the details:
Class numbers are strictly limited numbers to allow generous hands-on support.
The making part of the classes consist of two full days in the studio 10-6pm including a 1 hour break where you are welcome to join Karla Marie for lunch at one of our favourite local restaurants.
Once you've mad your 16 pieces the clay will need to dry out before being fired in the kiln up to 1000 degrees. This process can take a week or two depending on the time of year.
After the first firing you'll be invited back for a half day in the studio to sand your works in preparation for the glaze, an important step to ensure you get the best possible finish.
Next comes the glaze day, you'll want to allow another full day to apply the magical glaze on to all 16 of your pieces, depending on your glaze choice this may be a brush on or dip and pour application, you'll get careful hands on guidance to ensure your glazes are just right.
If you are from out of town and are unable to return for your glazing session Karla Marie and Lulu are happy to lovingly sand glaze and finish your works for an additional fee.
Finally our kiln faeries will skilfully fire your works to ensure your pieces are food-safe and durable. Due to the volume of pieces this process will take up to 8weeks to complete.
When your set is ready, come and join us for an exciting show and tell where we get together, share some food and drinks and relish in the success of such an epic pottery achievement and you'll get to take your pieces home to enjoy for many years to come.

Clay, tools, and firing fees are included in classes unless otherwise stated.
Refund Policy
If you need to cancel your class for any reason please contact us asap so that we may attempt to assist you in finding a replacement for your seat in the class. Whilst we will do our best to accommodate, we cannot guarantee refunds unless:
A full refund (minus $25 administration fee) will be given if you cancel 3 weeks prior to the class start.
A 50% refund will be given if you cancel 2 weeks prior to a class starting. (or a full refund if a replacement can be found)
No refund will be given if your cancellation occurs within 1 week of the class starting date unless a suitable replacement can be found.
Non-attendance
If you are unable to make a class for personal reasons, bad weather, or illness, we do not offer refunds and cannot guarantee make-up classes. However, there will be very limited options for makeup classes thorough the term at a cost of $60 per session on some Thursday evenings (and possibly other days) in lieu of these we will do our best to catch you up where possible.
Karla Marie Ceramics Limited reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrolment. A full refund will be issued if this is the case.
Karla Marie Ceramics Limited reserves the right to change the tutor stated for the class at any given time, however, we will endeavour to let students know ahead of time.
