June ClimateTech Coffee
Join us at Lazarus for ClimateTech Coffee!
This month we'll feature a pair of speakers - one working to reduce the amount of plastic in the world today, the other fostering plant based alternatives.
Rodney Ridley is a second year PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on plastics and sustainability, and he utilizes tools from computational biology and polymer chemistry towards this aim. His past work has involved the design and compilation of the largest study to date on interactions between plastics and microbes in the environment. This led to the discovery of novel potential methods for plastics biodegradation.
Alexander Blum is the founder & CEO of Applied Bioplastics, which supplies sustainable plant-based plastic alternatives. He is a thought-and-action leader in refugee housing, sustainable building materials, biopolymers, and equitable commerce, as well as an award-winning documentarian (see "Blossoms from Ash").
ABOUT CLIMATETECH COFFEE:
ClimateTech Coffee is an informal monthly meetup to learn and connect with people passionate about reversing climate change. We're biased toward connecting and we want to foster collaboration opportunities.
Austin is emerging as one of the nation's climate tech hubs, so come join us at Lazarus (on East 6th, not Airport) to keep up with the latest developments. Each month you can expect one or two short, deck-less lightning talks from a local business leader, policy expert, or researcher to share what they're working on and what they're excited about. A healthy dose of discussion will follow!
Whether you're just starting your climate journey or you've been working here your entire career, everyone is welcome.
