Olito Social Club: Paradox
Think Olio is an ongoing experiment in lifelong learning. We are a community of open-minded people who gather to exchange ideas with new friends and connect over art, literature, and philosophy.
Olito is the Friday night social club born out of our community, giving us a place to gather each week. You're always welcome, whether you come solo or with friends - the vibes are communal and thoughtful.
For this Friday's Olito, based on what we have learned about the true significance of Cinco de Mayo (we'll explain when we see you), we will have an evening exploring the theme of Paradox.
Stay connected online — or lose a whole afternoon doomscrolling.
Speak your mind — or protect your peace.
Stay informed — or unplug entirely.
Grind to survive — or slow down to actually live.
Fight the battle — even knowing you might lose the war.
Fail — because that's the only way to really succeed.
From contradictions and paradoxes that we find in modern life to the timeless truths that many traditions have shown us, conversation cards and prompts built around paradox, will help us to sit with the tensions, the in-betweens, the both/ands.
Come join us as we try to figure it out — or at least get a little more comfortable living inside the contradictions.
What to expect:
8-9pm: This is the time to arrive, get settled and order some amazing pizza and a first round (the kitchen closes by 9pm).
9-10pm: This hour will be facilitated with a new conversation prompt every 10 minutes based on our theme giving you a chance to meet all the lovely folks in the room. (Ofc this is optional and there's a great backyard space if you don't want to participate)
10-11pm: Free flowing hang out time
11pm: Get those numbers! You don't have to go home, but some of us have school on Saturday morning. You've got new crushes and new friends and you're riding the high of creating new community. See you next week!

In a community effort against the isolation and political nihilism we can sometimes feel in this city, custom-made conversation cards on communal tables invite guests to explore culture, creativity, and connection with strangers at our social club / wine bar.
We dream of a phone-less bar. We won't tell you to put it away but our hope is that the vibe will be so good, you won't even remember you have an instagram.
