AI adoption is advancing at a surprising pace: by November 2022, nearly 40% of the population, including young people in the United States, were already using it, a faster rate than the internet or personal computers ever achieved (Bick, Blandin, and Deming, 2024). However, in regions like Latin America and the Caribbean, where 40% of students lack reliable internet access, that promise still seems distant (IDB, 2022). Will AI, then, be a tool to close gaps or will it end up widening them, leaving millions of people out of the technological future?
This event will examine how AI can open new educational opportunities while mitigating the risks of deepening inequalities. The discussions will focus on how AI can expand access, personalized learning experiences, and equip students with the skills needed for today and future. The challenge is clear, and the time to act is now. Will the region be ready to embrace the AI challenge?
