6:30pm – Intro
6:35pm - Kristy Sadler, Q&A
Kristy is the CEO and Co-Founder of Zestyplan, a platform that helps people make more climate-smart decisions about what they eat. After 15 years scaling go-to-market initiatives at successful software companies, Kristy mixed her passion for sustainable food and technology to address one of the most pressing issues of the climate crisis. With food systems making up over 30% of global emissions, Zestyplan is on a mission to power the movement to climate-smart eating.
Kristy will share her journey to building Zestyplan and touch on the misconceptions around sustainable food and sustainable eating. With the need for behavior change being a key driver behind Zestyplan, Kristy will showcase how the power of technology, education and community can have an exponential impact.
7:00pm – Anita Krajnc, Q&A
Anita Krajnc is the co-founder of Toronto Pig Save and the Executive Director of the Animal Save Movement, a worldwide network of Save groups bearing witness to farmed animals and promoting veganism and love-based, grassroots activism. Anita helps coordinate global campaigns such as the Plant Based Treaty. Anita received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Toronto, is a staunch follower of Leo Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi and Cesar Chavez. Anita has also been an assistant professor at Queen’s University (Ontario), where she has taught university courses on social movement strategies and tactics.
Anita has participated in Clayoquot Sound and Great Bear Rainforest campaigns, where she met Tzeporah Berman, who now chairs the Fossil Fuel Nonproliferation Treaty. After reconnecting with her in April 2021, Anita and her team was inspired to begin a whirlwind launch of the Plant Based Treaty initiative four months later.
Anita's presentation is about her work with Plant Based Treaty, whose goal is a global Plant Based Treaty attached to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to enable a plant-based food system. A second goal is for cities and institutions to implement best practices in plant-based food policies and rewilding. 30 cities have endorsed the Treaty so far, and they are working to get Toronto and other Ontario cities to pass meaningful motions.
7:25pm - Dihan Chandra, Q&A
Dihan, a visionary social entrepreneur, initiated his first venture in 2006 - Organic Lifestyle, dedicated to advocating non-toxic living with products like organic pillows and mattresses.
His eco-conscious mindset led him to explore climate change reduction solutions, founding The Spent Goods Company after discovering the environmental impact of diverting barley grains used to make beer from disposal and, instead, making new products like sourdoughs, pizzas, and bagels to feed people.
In 5 years, they’ve fed 152,475 people, offset the car emissions equivalent of driving 90% around the earth from Toronto, and created 6 local jobs.
Dihan and his team exemplify how sustainable solutions can drive positive change and economic growth.
