Ask a Chief of Staff: How to Delegate Effectively, Even Without Formal Authority
As a Chief of Staff, a lot of potential work lands on your plate and you can’t do it all. You need the skills, mindset, and self-discipline to delegate effectively. Delegation can be more challenging as Chief of Staff. Often, you must use influence instead of authority when enlisting the help of others. But the reward of mastering delegation is worth it. Good delegators enjoy high productivity, job satisfaction, work-life balance, and are free to focus on high-value activities. Struggling delegators become bottlenecks for decisions, burn out, and waste their limited time and energy working on the wrong things.
On October 12th, we’re excited to host Scott Drake, Delegation Trainer and Coach, to share with us strategies for delegating tasks, problem-solving, and management responsibilities to people at different levels of trust.
You should attend this workshop if:
- You’re a Chief of Staff interested in using influence, not just authority, to get things done;
- You’re eager to overcome delegation challenges and become a more effective leader;
- You’re looking to maximize your team’s performance and engagement through effective delegation;
- You struggle to balance your workload and want to learn how to share responsibilities;
- You want to learn delegation strategies to share with other managers
Please note, there will be a 100-person limit on this event. If you are unable to attend live, we will send a recording of the event afterwards.
More about the Speaker:
Scott is a technology executive turned Delegation Trainer and Coach. His career includes stops at Microsoft in Redmond, Wash., at Silicon Valley startups, and he owned a software development firm for seven years. His most recent executive role was as Vice President of Technology for medical education disruptor ScholarRx. In that role, he worked with a team of educators reinventing training for the next generation of medical doctors worldwide.
About five years into his leadership journey, he discovered that he wasn’t a good leader. He was too opinionated and micromanaging. He took too many wins for himself. When he started building management teams under him, he saw next-generation leaders making the same mistakes. He wanted to help so he began searching for a faster way to teach delegation. That search turned into a five-year research project and the innovations he now shares with others.
