Western Australian Wine Competition - Online Preliminary Round
Thanks for your interest in the second annual Western Australian Wine Competition! Please register above if you intend to take the online preliminary quiz - the top scores from which will determine who competes in the in-person finals in Dallas, TX on August 24, 2024 (at TEXSOM). The grand prize is a trip to Margaret River, Western Australia!!
Here's everything you need to know:
All US wine professionals are welcome! Whether you work in retail or hospitality, this is for you. This isn’t your average, crusty sommelier competition. Wear what you want! Serve how you do! This is about measuring Western Australian wine knowledge and appreciation (and a sense of hospitality), not specific testing standards.
The online exam is on July 7, 2025. It’s open book. (But if you have to look every answer up, you’re not going to get very far.) By registering, you will get a calendar invite with the quiz link, which will go live at 10am PT (1pm ET) on July 7, 2024.
The in-person finals will be held on August 24, 2025 in Dallas, Texas as part of the Bonus Educational Programming at TEXSOM (this precedes the official conference start). To compete, you must be able to get yourself to the finals. (If this presents a financial hardship, please reach out via the 'contact the host' link, and we'll see what we can do to help.)
The in-person finals include a tasting and service exam (and maybe a few curveballs), commencing the morning of August 24 in Dallas, TX. The last round of the finals will be held later that afternoon, with a trade audience at TEXSOM.
Grand prize is a trip to Margaret River (!!!); second place gets a $500 cash prize; and the third place contestant gets a case of top Western Australia wine!
The competition is organized by Jane Lopes and Jonathan Ross - two industry vets who have worked in some of the world’s top restaurants, passed the master sommelier exam, written wine books, and currently import Australian wine to the US. They want you to love Australian wine as much as they do.
