Join us for a deep dive on a promising class of architectures that present an alternative to the Transformer, namely state-space models like Mamba. This session will be presented by experienced Toronto ML folks Yenson Lau and Abhimanyu Anand. The session will be interactive and rigorous discussions are encouraged. About the group: The Toronto LLM Meetup group is founded by Suhas Pai, CTO and Co-founder of Hudson Labs. The aim of this group is to facilitate deep dives into LLM research topics, harnessing the skills of Toronto's vibrant AI ecosystem and promoting intellectual rigor. To this end, for each session we assemble a team of top Toronto AI scientists and practitioners to conduct an in-depth study of an emerging topic that is expected to go mainstream 6 months from now. The team presents their findings along with jumping-off points for future research at a meetup session, held at Toronto's top AI companies. Eventually we aim to spawn off community open-source research projects this way.
Speakers:
Yenson Lau: Yenson Lau is currently a Machine Learning Engineer at EvenUp, where he leverages large language models (LLMs) and advanced machine learning techniques to transform personal injury law. He has productionized state-the-art models in corporate as well as startup environments, and has published research on optimization, signal processing, and deep learning in prestigious journals and conferences. Yenson holds advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, is a consummate urbanite, and loves to travel during the winter months.
Abhimanyu Anand: Abhimanyu Anand is a Data Scientist at Wattpad, where he leads the development of recommender systems and NLP-driven applications for personalized content. He holds a Masters degree from Trent University, specializing in NLP. Alongside his work at Wattpad, he provides consultation services to companies on implementing Generative AI applications and teaches a course on Maven about building multi-agent systems. His diverse experience includes AI solutions for large-scale internet platforms, metals and mining, oil and gas, and e-commerce.
