Protests in Serbia: What’s Happening? Open Talk by the Bliže Community
What are the students fighting for, and why do they believe their demands have not yet been met? Does everyone support the protesters, and who attends pro-government rallies? How are families coping when schools and universities have been shut down for 3–4 months? Why should we keep track of these events, and how should non-citizens of Serbia navigate the situation? Which news sources can be trusted?
On March 19th, the Russian-Serbian community "Bliže" is hosting an open discussion in Belgrade where we will try to find answers to these questions and better understand what is happening in Serbia right now. Our speakers will include citizens and protest participants — a student, a journalist, a researcher, and a local resident — as well as members of the Russian-speaking community and other expats.
It seems likely that protests will still be ongoing on the day of our event, but we believe that it’s important not to postpone the conversation and to discuss the situation with everyone who has questions. We will be following the latest developments and invite all those who want to gain clarity and hear firsthand accounts.
