All profits to facilitate STEAM outreach and education at Farset Labs
Farset Labs invites you to be enlightened, engaged, enthused and entertained at The Black Box in Belfast on 7th August. Via the cut and thrust of an old-school intellectual public debate. The proposition will be “Will GenAI revolutionise our lives for the good in the next 5 Years?". Themes explored will include the redefinition of knowledge work, the loss of autonomy and meaning in our working lives, the ethical implications of surrendering decision making to AI, and the potential end of creativity and originality in the arts.
There will be six speakers, three for and three against. We have gathered a range of different perspectives and backgrounds, the better to capture the range of impact that GenAI will have on our working and social lives. Your speakers will be as follows
Proposition
Will GenAI revolutionise our lives for the good in the next 5 Years?

Gillian Armstrong Specialist Solutions Architect at AWS
Ben Bland Emerging Technology Consultant at Liberty IT, Chair of IEEE Working Group on Emulated Empathy
Deirdre Morrison Applied Neuroscientist at Leading Mind Strategies

Andrew Bolster Senior R&D Manager (Data Science) at Black Duck
Catherine Browne Psychotherapist at Brightness & Balance Psychotherapy, formerly Enterprise Risk Manager at Openreach
Megan D’Arcy Data Engineer at Kainos, NIDC and QUB event organiser
Each speaker will have 5 minutes to present their case, after which they will be questioned by other speakers and members of the audience. There will be an opportunity for closing statements at the end, and for a general Q&A. Members of the audience will be invited to record their views both before and after the debate, thereby capturing how much the event has shifted their views.
This is an ideal event for technologists, educators, creatives, policy makers, and product people to broaden their understanding. We hope that this event will raise your awareness of both the pros and cons of AI. Not just in terms of how it will simplify professions like software engineering, law and marketing - but how it will affect the way we educate ourselves, consume media, manage our careers, and engage in the political process. This will be a lively debate with lots of opportunity to explore the issues in-depth. We hope to see you there!
