Pocket Forest Planting: Moving People & Nature Forward
Detroit’s first Pocket Forest is taking root in Corktown during Mobility Week! On September 20, between 10 AM to PM, join us as we plant 1,100+ native trees and shrubs across 3,200 square feet using the Japanese Miyawaki Method. You will have the chance to plant trees and learn about how cities can help improve biodiversity and create healthier environments for all.
Located in Corktown where companies are pioneering mobility innovations, this forest highlights a future where cities move not only people but people and nature forward together. A collaboration between SUGi (forest maker/lead), Life Time Foundation (funder), Kintsugi Village (host and steward), The Greening of Detroit (tree support partner), and Brightside Collective (vision and mobilizer), this living ecosystem will move people and nature, restore biodiversity, cool the neighborhood, and create a vibrant space for connection and renewal.
