Inside the Mind of Impact Investors: Behavioural Insights and Decision Dynamics

​What does it mean to say that you are an "impact investor?"  How do impact investors behave differently than traditional investors in the private equity market?  In Canada, there is limited empirical research examining the specific decision-making behaviors of impact investors.

​Impact United and Spring, in partnership with the University of Victoria Gustavson School of Business, facilitated some research to address this gap and explore the motivations, priorities, and decision-making processes of impact investors.  The research draws on in-depth interviews with 27 Canadian investors, conducted by students in the UVic MBA in Sustainable Innovation, and a unique dataset from a series of inputs from groups of Canadian investors (113 in total) as they move through the process of making impact investment decisions.

​In this webinar, Professor Basma Majeri, Director of the Impact Investing Hub, will share insights from the interviews and the findings from the Spring Impact Investor Challenges where participating investors made real investment decisions into Canadian impact ventures.  Topics to discuss include risk tolerance, return expectations, investment timeframes, investment criteria and priorities between impact and financial returns. There will be time for breakout sessions to share and compare your own thinking and approach.
