It is a tradition in KLH to spend a weekend in Cameron Highlands and enjoy hiking in the cooler temperature. This year we hike at two venues we haven't been before.
We call this a 2D/2N event because there will be no organised activity on Friday. We will however book accommodation for that night.
Gunung 6040 gets its name, quite literally, from its elevation in feet. While the total elevation gain is just 750 meters, the trek feels quite demanding because of its terrain: soft mossy ground, muddy paths, narrow passages beneath low-hanging trees, and a few steep climbs. We will be hiking on the border of Pahang and Kelantan during the last section. The mossy forest on Gunung 6040 is vast and pristine. Hiking through it feels surreal, like stepping into another world.
A 4WD will bring us through the vegetable farms to the trailhead. This is a moderate hike of more than 13 kilometres in total. The IBP-rating is 85.
The next day we take it a bit more relaxed when hiking the so-called Trans Gandik Trail. This is a relatively easy trail at the Pahang-Perak border, bringing us to some smaller mountains along the way: Gunung Bunting and Gunung Tanggung. The total distance is around 6 kilometres and the IBP-rating is 42.
Although we will stay in Tanah Rata, we will meet at the respective trailheads on Saturday and Sunday, so you need to make sure that you have your own transport arrangements.
Accommodation will be in a dorm or in your own tent on a campsite. We will make the accommodation arrangements based on your preferences indicated in the Participation Form.
Even if you are not fit or have not hiked for some time, you don't have to give this event a miss, but accept the fact that you will not be able to summit. As always, it is about the journey, not the destination...!
The participation fee is determined by 1- whether you choose dorm or camping and 2- the number of participants due to the 1:7 guide ratio.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.
Although there will be guides, this still remains a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file in advance and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers.

IMPORTANT: keep in mind that there is always a chance that we are not allowed to hike due to dangerous weather or other conditions (eg heavy rain, flood, landslide, health measures...) - we cannot be held responsible for such cancellation.
