About Event

Raise your hand if someone in your life recently asked you about “web3” or “metaverse” or “nfts” ✋✋✋😏  The mainstream narrative of how this emerging space is "all hype" and "full of scams" is only a small piece of the full story (and the media is telling you this because those are sexy headlines 🥴.) What they're not telling you about are the ideologies and experimental projects being tested that could set the foundation of the next web in the long run. As for brands, most of the conversation rn are usually along the lines of “how do we put an ad on roblox”, “how do we get ready for Meta”, or using NFTs as some sort of stunt 😅

Well folks, it’s time for us to look under the surface, understand what the heck is going on in web3 and its implications in culture.

You might have heard that the best way to learn about web3 is by participating in it. Ok fine, we get it, you’re “busy.” So we did the doing for you and pulled a 7 hour crash course (separated into two days) of highly customized content for strtgsts, featuring practitioners in web3, so you can make sense of it all 💅🤓

Our approach to the programming is to uncover aspects that's beyond the "hype", "degens" and "pfp projects", showing you some of the more nuanced aspects of web3 and culture edges that get strtgsts turned on 🥴, featuring actual web3 practitioners. What we ended up with offers you:

  • Fundamentals of web3

  • web3’s impact on different corners of culture

  • A showcase of some vvvv cool projects (that's not your classic degen projects)

  • POVs by marketers on how they’ve been approaching the space

web3 is at its nascent stages and its changing everyday. That means it’s full of opportunities for experimentation and play. Remember those early social media days where things were weird and experimental (before cancel culture and we’re just posting about our breakfast 😌)? web3 is currently at its beginnings and it’s up to us to decide what to do with it, build use cases that are meaningful and hopefully better than its predecessors.

Come for two nights of thoughtful af talks and discussions on web3, specifically designed for curious thinkers who are trying to figure out wtf is going on ✨

Programming

NIGHT 1️⃣ (Foundations & all about da culture~)

A Primer On web3 (30 min talk + 10 min Q&A)

Rockwell Shah is a faculty member at Invisible College, an online campus onboarding builders & creators into web3. He will help us break down the fundamentals of web3, debunk some myths and clarify why should (or shouldn’t) care about this evolution of the internet.

What web3 Means For: Community (20 min talk + 10 min Q&A)

After years of building communications with leading agencies, brands and co-founding his own agency, Fancy went all in on web3. First as the founding team the Protein Community, and now, instigator at RADAR. Fancy also contributes regularly to Seedclub, ForeFront and a number of leading DAOs alongside working with Protein Agency to onboard brands into web3. Fancy will talk to us about how he reframes web3 to clients through the concept of “the next evolution of community.”

What web3 Means For: Media (20 min talk + 10 min Q&A)

Steph Alinsug was a freelance brand strategist for a decade who specialized in social justice and community before going all in on web3. After testing the waters by being a contributor at various DAOs, she is now the Media lead at Seedclub, the leading network for DAOs and Tokenized Communities. Steph will break down what decentralized media looks like and how web3 is going to change how brands approach media.

What web3 Means For: Identity (20 min talk + 10 min Q&A)

After graduating Stanford, Gaby Goldberg has dedicated her career in helping people understand and build in web3. She is an Investor at TCG Crypto, an early stage consumer crypto fund that invested in projects such as RabbitHole, POAP, and Flamingo DAO. Her web3 reading list, podcast list and job board are many people’s first step into web3. Gaby will talk to us about digital identity, how the time we have spent online has changed overtime and how digital experiences in web3 can help us feel less lonely.

What web3 Means For: The Future of Work (20 min talk + 10 min Q&A)

Chase Chapman is a DAO contributor, focused on exploring how DAOs will shape the way humans think about and engage in work. She is an angel investor, host of On the Otherside, a podcast exploring the human side of web3, and spends most of her time collaborating with and writing about DAOs. In her talk, Chase will tell us about how DAOs will change work, play, and everything in between.

Dope AF Project Showcase (10 min each)

Mad Realities is building “Netflix of Web3.” After the success of their first experimental dating show, “Proof of Love”, the company is now backed by the likes of Paris Hilton, Scott Belsky (Behance), Packy McCormick (Not Boring) and more 🤯

Poolsuite is making their mark in the future of leisure and commerce. They are a lifestyle brand creating a suite of tools for the good life, on (ie. creating the coolest music player that transported listeners the nostalgia of laying on a beach in 1980s) & offline (ie. making the world’s “best smelling sunscreen”).

Songcamp is a web3 laboratory experimenting at the edges of music and the new internet. Their most recent project CHAOS, is an experimental music collaboration project made by 77 individuals, operating as a “headless band”, creating 45 songs in 8 weeks and rethinking how artists get paid for their work.

Lens Protocol is building web3's social media networks. They do this with a product that is user-owned, open social graph that any application can plug into.

RADAR is building the first community-owned and powered futures engine: discovering, incubating, and delivering futures that reflect both the trends we're spotting and the world in which we want to live. Foresight practitioners contribute alongside futures newbies; web3 natives mingle with thoughtful skeptics; and strategists, writers, designers and more converge to create a new future for futures — or, as one member put it — “it’s like if a futures agency and a venture studio had a baby, and a community raised them.”

NIGHT 2️⃣ (Let's talk brands)

Soooo, how exactly should brands be thinking about this? (Discussion)

An open discussion with a group of marketers who have dove deep into web3, covering topics such as brands getting into web3, biggest barriers for brands, how they’re doing it, working with web3 native brands, the future of work, DEI and more.

Featuring:
Nick Susi (Executive Director of Strategy at dotdotdash, prob at a cool music NFT party, constantly telling brands nfts are not the metaverse)

Nikita Walia (Founder & CEO at BLANK, focusing on activating brands in culture. Her clients span from carbon technology companies to Web3 SaaS platforms. You can find her sharing her thoughts on most internet mediums.)
