About Event

This is a Tech & Society salon focused on the philosophical, ethical, and societal nature of crypto.

Crypto promises freedom from centralized forces — but some of these promises have paradoxical implications on the way we interact with each other and the systems around us. Some questions we could explore in this salon include:

  • What is trust? How does crypto change our need for trust? Is trust bad or good?

  • What is the relationship between freedom, privacy, and convenience?

  • Is crypto explicitly tied to capitalism? Can it be used for progressive reform?

  • Is crypto compatible with government today? If yes, what might this relationship look like in the future?

  • Is a partially decentralized system better or worse than a fully centralized system? What trade offs should societies make?

  • How does financialization impact individual expression and social coordination?

This is inspired by the awesome discussions happening at Crypto, Culture, & Society.
