Cultivating Care and Accessibility in Documentary Production
Recent studies from ITVS and FWD-Doc have highlighted a lack of true care for both participants and filmmakers in various spheres of documentary film. How can we create spaces of both physical and psychological safety so that meaningful dialogue can happen with participants, crew, and audiences? In this conversation, we will deep dive into the world of care equity and accessibility and how to bake these principles into every stage of your project. We will discuss how to negotiate contracts to incorporate flexibility into your process, how to create realistic budgets that take into account accessibility features for all involved, how to find vendors in mental health and accessibility, but most importantly, how to embed accountability into the process to ensure best practice.
