Porcia's Porch : A Stoic Community for Women
September's Theme: Expedition Anger — Exploring Anger through Stoic Principle
"And why should we feel anger at the world? As if the world would notice!" — Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 7.38
This discussion is designed for women navigating the unique challenges of anger in their personal and professional lives, offering both insight and practical tools.
Join us for a 90-minute discussion as we explore the complex emotion of anger through the Stoic lens of women. Together, we'll reflect on:
The root of anger: Where does it come from—biological, evolutionary, environmental, or perhaps something else?
The role of anger: Can it be transmuted, or should it be avoided altogether? Is this even possible, or is it a controversial question?
Stoic perspectives: How did the Stoics view anger, and what can we interpret from their teachings?
Managing anger: How can we adapt or evolve the Stoic interpretation of anger to be applied to the scenarios that make us angry as women?
Constructive use: Can anger be channeled productively, allowing us to feel the emotion and recycle it for positive energy?
Drawing on Stoic teachings, we'll explore how the ancient philosophers viewed anger and discuss how we, as modern Stoic women, can adapt these principles to manage the situations that provoke us today.
