While community building is nothing new, the rise of the community profession has skyrocketed in the last few years — both to build community internally among teams and externally around brands and causes. The job titles and descriptions of internal and external community managers can look quite different, but the goals, tactics, and execution we use to be successful are often the same.

Rhiannon Martinez, Community Program Manager at Gusto
Rhiannon builds internal community with employees at Gusto. She focuses on employee engagement and events for Gusto’s distributed workforce and strives to create inclusive and equitable access to all the programming available to employees. Rhiannon is based in Denver where she spends her time chasing her 2 dogs, running around with a running club, and trying to see as much live music as possible.
Marcie Walker, Head of Community Engagement at Gatheround
Marcie is a community builder, focused on optimizing both in-person and virtual interactions to create or deepen connections. She believes community is a crucial part of the human experience — to expand your perspectives, teach you something new, share resources, or simply make you happier.
She is currently the Head of Community Engagement at Gatheround, a platform that facilitates impactful conversations for organizations. Her work at Gatheround centers on creating conversations and connections among those who believe in the power of remote work, equity and inclusion in the workplace, or creating better workplace experiences.
Previously, she's led community programs at Meetup and Fiverr, with an emphasis in grassroots organizing, onboarding & training, and group facilitation. Marcie currently lives in Denver, where she loves developing relationships in communities that focus on music, wine education, hiking, reading, and activism.
