Science Spotlights with Dr. Joanna Sadler
This time we'll be guested by Dr Joanna Sadler from the University of Edinburgh for a discussion on her scientific career to date and how her lab has been using biology to turn waste into value! As always, we've got a tonne of questions but come and join us for an extended Q&A to have your own questions asked.
This event is for seasoned scientists and research rookies alike, whatever your background, come and join us for a down-to-earth chat with one of the great female leaders of the field.
Bio:
Joanna obtained a MSc in Chemistry from the University of Bristol in 2013 and a PhD in Biocatalysis and Organic Chemistry from GSK and the University of Strathclyde in 2017. She has held postdoctoral positions at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology and the University of St Andrews where she specialised in directed evolution and metabolic engineering. She moved to the University of Edinburgh in 2019 to take up a BBSRC Discovery Fellow in the lab of Dr Stephen Wallace and is now leading her independent research laboratory as a Chancellor’s Fellow. Her multi-disciplinary research combines synthetic biology and synthetic chemistry in novel technologies to degrade and upcycle post-consumer plastic waste. This includes enzyme discovery, pathway engineering and optimisation and developing novel enzyme display methods.
