About Event

Dear Q Bay Community Members,

We are excited to invite you all to join our Moon Festival Celebration at Q Bay Center on September 17th from 12pm to 5pm! Join us for a day of eating mooncakes, participate in two DIY workshops including candle making and decorating your own snow-skin mooncakes, and engage in other festive activities!

What to Look Forward to?

12:00PM - 2:00PM: Receive mooncakes

Mooncakes are a traditional Chinese pastry usually eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival, in which the harvest and the full moon are celebrated. Mooncakes are typically round or square cakes that have a thin, soft crust filled with an array of fillings including lotus seed paste, red bean paste, or salted egg yolk. In addition, mooncakes consist of many intricate designs or symbols on the top, representing longevity, harmony, and the moon. Mooncakes are eaten in celebration with family and friends and symbolize togetherness and unity.

2:00PM-5:00PM: DIY Snow-skin Mooncakes and Candles Workshops

Workshop 1: DIY Snow-skin Mooncake Decorating

Snowskin mooncakes are a modern twist on traditional mooncakes and are enjoyed during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In contrast to conventional mooncakes, snow-skin mooncakes have a soft and chewy outer layer made with glutinous rice flour, giving them a mochi-like texture. The skin is typically brightly colored and the fillings range from lotus seed paste to more contemporary flavors like fruits and chocolate.

Workshop 2: DIY Candle Making

Candles play a very significant role in the Mid-Autumn Festival and represent the light of the full moon and the brightness of family gatherings. The candles are usually used to light up the lanterns which are hung on strings during the celebration. These lanterns, which are illuminated by the candles, are carried in processions and are displayed outside to create an ambient and serene atmosphere. The light of the candles symbolizes hope and guidance and the wish for a better future.
