Basics of Semiconductors: Inverter Workshop

​Join us for an engaging hands-on workshop designed to introduce complete beginners to the fascinating world of integrated circuit layout design. Starting with the basics of how computer chips are made, and then dive into the practical world of chip design using SiliWiz, a beginner-friendly layout tool, and a guest speaker, Chi Ta, a co-op student from Alphawave who currently works in layout design to share their experiences!

​Through visual presentations and interactive demonstrations, participants will learn about the essential layers found in layout software and understand what each layer represents in the physical chip.

​The workshop culminates in a step-by-step guided exercise where everyone will design their first circuit: a simple but fundamental inverter. A laptop is needed to fully participate, otherwise, you may view the TV screen demonstration or come with someone who has a laptop.
